After countless rounds of editing my first novel is complete. This week I sent out my first query letter to an agent.

Here is the synopsis. Please leave a comment. I hope a lot of folks are interested in reading the story!

I love a story with a great mythos and characters that solve problems with their intellect first, pick their fights with care, and live by a code of honor. Blade and Arrow spotlights this uncommon type of hero.

Jake Hardie, his friends Alex, Ryan, and Tony hike into the woods and accidentally stumble into a portal to another world. There, the boys discover deadly rat creatures enslaving and feeding on humans. The situation grows worse when the boys learn one of the Old Gods stalks them.

Be ready to get quizzed on subject matter that is not in any of the training materials.

You read that right. They test you on subject matter NOT IN THE BOOKS.

I can’t and won’t reveal any of the questions that I remember from the certification exam I took yesterday. But I will tell you I’m hopping mad after spending six months preparing for the test. I attended all the lectures, completed all the labs and for the last few months pounded away at the practice exams.

I scored 96 to 100 on them taking between four and six a day on both the Microsoft and Transcender tests.

So today I called the guy at the training center and explained my grievance. He told me they get a lot of complaints about people being tested on subject matter not covered in the training material. I’m left wondering why they just didn’t give me a test on programming Python or lawn mower repair.

I also complained that questions were asked on the test which were not graded. Thats right. No credit. There are a couple problems with that, the main one being you have limited time to complete the test and the ungraded ones chew up your test time and review time. It makes it harder to pass.

So I asked him simply, “What am I supposed to study, if the material you provided isn’t guaranteed to help me pass the test?” ( Like dude, why do you even have a program if that’s not what it does? )

He said he’d get back to me. In the meantime, I’m digging into the questions I remember and know I got wrong and deciding what to do next. If you’ve had a similar experience write to me at jmdoggett@yahoo.com
